ARTIST MELANIE LYA GARVER
Artist Melanie Lya Garver was born in Niagara Falls, New York. At a young age she displayed potential in drawing and design. She studied art for her four years at Taylor Allderdice High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Art Education from Penn State University in1967. Immediately she was employed as a TV Art Teacher with the Columbus Ohio School System for a year and a half.
After marriage and motherhood she became a Junior High School art teacher for the Arlington Independent School District in Arlington, Texas. During this time period of 29 years she received her Master of Art (majoring in Weaving and Drawing) at Texas Women's University in Denton, Texas. Melanie was a senior teacher for A.I.S.D. and developed the art curriculum for the seventh thru ninth grade art classes.
While teaching during the day she developed her artistic styles in acrylics, watercolors, weaving, and clothing design. She has had galleries and high end clothing shops selling her artwork and clothing in Miami, Georgetown, Dallas, Ft. Worth, Tucson, Palm Springs, and Rodeo Drive. She has added an original jewelry line to her art business.
Melanie Garver currently resides in Arlington, Texas, and Palm Springs, California.
